Enjoy Tuscany

Montepulciano, Pienza and the Val d’Orcia (10 hours) (from Florence)

Take in the delights of some of the most splendid villages and landscapes of southern Tuscany, with visits to Montepulciano, Pienza and the wonderful landscapes of the Val d’Orcia.
You will be picked up at your hotel in Florence by your private vehicle and driver at 8.45am. Drive from here to Montepulciano (about 1h45m), one of Tuscany’s highest hilltowns. Its walls and fortifications offer wide views over Umbria and southern Tuscany, and the vineyards providing the Vino Nobile wine that has made the area famous. The main street, the Corso, lined with Renaissance palaces, leads up to the 17th-century Duomo. Inside are numerous art treasures including the glazed terracotta Altar of the Lilies by Andrea della Robbia, and the lovely triptych depicting the Assumption by Taddeo di Bartolo.
Take a tour of the prestigious Dei winery and taste their Vino Nobile wines (15-23 euros per person), then head for your lunchtime venue at the Podere Il Casale, near Pienza, where their dishes are created with genuine and fresh produce from the farmhouse itself or from other local organic farmers.
After lunch there will be time to pay a visit to the town of Pienza, the birthplace of Pope Pius II. In the charming Piazza Pio II designed by architect Bernardo Rossellino stand the most important buildings including the cathedral with its Renaissance façade.
At 4pm it will be time to head towards the enchanting village of Bagno Vignoni with its natural spa waters. Enjoy a short stop here to see the pool in the centre of the village before setting off back to Florence. Arrival back at your hotel at about 7pm.
