Castello di Monsanto, Castello della Paneretta and San Gimignano
Enjoy Tuscany

Castello di Monsanto, Castello della Paneretta and San Gimignano (9 hours) (from Livorno)

This is the perfect shore excursion from Livorno for those wishing to visit one of Tuscany’s most iconic towns and spend some of the day sampling the wines of the Chianti region at two of the area’s prime locations. Prepare to be amazed!
Leaving the port of Livorno at 8.30am, you will arrive at your first stop in about 1h-1h30m. The Castello di Monsanto winery is found in the heart of the Chianti Classico area and affords some spectacular views of the soaring towers of San Gimignano which you will visit later in the day.
This impressive wine estate with its 72 hectares of vineyards, grows 56 hectares of Sangiovese and a small percentage of the two historic vines of the Chianti Classico grape blend : Canaiolo and Colorino.
Take a tour of the historic cellars and vineyards and learn how this family makes their wine. You will be able to sample three different wines during the tasting session (€22 per person).
A short drive will bring you to another prime Tuscan winery, the Castello della Paneretta, also located in the prestigious Chianti Classico area. Here, in the surroundings of the enchanting castle, you can enjoy a tasting of selected local products including traditional Tuscan ham, salami and cheese, extra vergin olive oil and honey (from €25 per person), or a winetasting and light lunch of local specialities (€45 per person).
After lunch you will head for San Gimignano, (just 30 minutes away), the town of the 15 medieval towers and stunning Tuscan views. The towers were built by rival noble families during the 12th and 13th centuries when the town prospered from its position on the pilgrim route from northern Europe to Rome. Enjoy the cobbled walk up through the town, with its many shops, cafés and restaurants. Don’t miss a look at the splendid frescoes inside the Collegiata, the main church of San Gimignano. There is an excellent gelato opportunity in Piazza Cisterna, too.
The drive back to Livorno from San Gimignano takes about 1h15m.
