On a one-day shore excursion from the port of Livorno it is possible to combine the highlights of Tuscany’s most amazing city and some retail therapy at the well-known The Mall shopping outlet. We suggest the following (flexible) itinerary to get the most from the day.
Driving from Livorno directly to The Mall takes about 1h 40m. You will have around two hours to explore the many designer-name shops and bring away some satisfying Italian fashion bargains.
From The Mall it’s just a 40-minute drive to the first stop in Florence whose wonders you will be able to admire from the glorious viewpoint at Piazzale Michelangelo. Don’t forget to look for the beautiful Romanesque church of San Miniato a Monte which stands above the square, overlooking Florence.
Next your private driver will take you into the city centre of Florence to admire all of those awesome sights for which the city is so famous: the Ponte Vecchio – the bridge over the Arno famous for its traditional jewellery stores -, the marble-clad Santa Maria del Fiore, Florence’s cathedral (known simply as the “Duomo”) with its astonishing gravity-defying Cupola, the recently-restored octagonal Baptistry, one of the oldest buildings in Florence, and the soaring 14th-century Bell Tower designed by the celebrated painter and architect Giotto di Bondone, one of the founders of Italian Renaissance architecture.
Piazza della Signoria is another landmark stop with its medieval city hall, the Palazzo Vecchio, and then there’s the unmissable church of Santa Croce where Michelangelo, Galileo and other illustrious Italian figures are buried.
Of course, no excursion to Tuscany would be complete without a taste of local Tuscan cuisine and your private driver will be happy to recommend an eatery to suit your tastes– just let your driver know what you are looking for.
It takes about 1h 30m to return to Livorno from Florence.
