When in Tuscany, an ideal way to spend a day is to explore some of the region’s excellent wineries, while also discovering some of the beautiful Tuscan countryside that has made the area so popular with visitors to Italy.
From the Port of Livorno we have devised this original shore excursion that combines wine, food and glorious Tuscan landscapes.
It takes under an hour to drive from the port to our first prestigious Chianti DOCG estate located in a stunning 16th century Medicean villa close to the village of Vinci, the birthplace of Leonardo (you can take a look at the village too!). The family-run winery has been lovingly restored and a small museum about wine-making created in the historic cellars. You will be able to visit the cellars and, of course, sample the wines.
From here you will drive further into the heart of the Chianti region for an authentic Tuscan lunch on the terrace of a traditional trattoria from where you can admire the rolling hills of this renowned wine-producing region.
After lunch another short drive alongside vineyards and fields, with inspiring views, will bring you to our second winery, this time in the Chianti Montespertoli DOCG area, the smallest of the Chianti denominations, close to the village of Montespertoli. Here at this Tuscan castle, the wine is produced entirely from grapes grown in its 40-hectare vineyard by a family that has lived in this historic home since the early 19th century. There are various wine-tasting options.
From here it is just an hour’s drive back to port.
Please note that winetastings and lunch are not included in the price of the excursion. The wineries described will be included subject to availability at the time of booking. As a guideline, each winetasting session costs around €??? per person.
